Engraving is like an old friend for those who love to draw.  The physical act of etching and digging into copper is a new one for me. It is a kind of drawing on steroids. Drypoint is the most like drawing. It has provided a wonderful new set of tools for life drawing. Engraving of any kind is a slow deliberate process allowing plenty of time for the mind to wander and come up with something unexpected. Softground has given me a new medium to use with figurative subjects.  While
not suited to direct from
life drawing I find it most rewarding when from memory and imagination without previous intentions.
